Aska, Oct 7: Ahead of Diwali, a huge cache of firecrackers worth around Rs 10 lakh was confiscated during a raid in Nalabanta village under Aska police jurisdiction in Ganjam district of Odisha, according to police reports.
Three persons have been detained on charges of illegal manufacturing and selling of firecrackers, despite the ongoing ban. The identities of the accused are yet to be established.
Acting on a tip-off regarding the illegal production and sale of firecrackers for Diwali, a team comprising Aska and Kotinada police conducted the raid today.
During the operation, officials seized a large quantity of fireworks, including bombs, kumpi, fataka, chakri, and high-sound bombs, as well as raw materials used in the production of the firecrackers, such as gunpowder, palm leaves, nitrogen powder, sulphur powder, charcoal, and iron cylinders.
Further investigation is underway.
