Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today ordered Crime Branch probe into the alleged assault by policemen on a lawyer in Cuttack last Tuesday.
The probe will be conducted by a DSP rank officer.
Meanwhile, for the seventh consecutive day on Tuesday, the strike by lawyers of Cuttack city continued, thereby hampering the judicial activities in all the courts, including that of the Orissa High Court.
The lawyers are protesting the assault of lawyer Debi Prasanna Pattnaik by policemen last Tuesday at Shastrinagar in Nuabazar in Cuttack.
They threatened that the agitation will continue until the erring policemen and a private person, against whom FIRs have been registered, are arrested.
The association will decide the next course of action at general body meeting to be held on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, at least three police personnel, including two constables were placed under suspension for allegedly assaulting lawyer Pattnaik.
Four FIRs have been lodged in connection with the assault and police vehicle torching case.
