Bhubaneswar: The 59th Police Commemoration Day – 2018 was observed at Police Reserve Ground here in a befitting manner, remembering the sacrifice of 10 policemen who lost their lives at the hands of Chinese troops in 1959.
Additional Commissioner of Police Sanjay Singh attended the programme as chief guest and paid floral tribute to the martyred police personnel who laid down their lives while fighting in the line of duty.
This year as many as 414 police personnel in the country, including one from Odisha laid down their lives for the cause of our nation while fighting in the line of duty.
Many senior police officials were also present.
The 1959 incident killed 10 policemen and left seven with serious injuries. They were later taken as prisoners. Weeks later China returned the bodies of the 10 personnel who were later cremated with full police honour at Hot Springs in North Eastern Ladakh. And since then the day is being celebrated as the Police Commemoration Day across the country.
