Cuttack, Nov 20: In a swift response to a heinous crime, Baranga police arrested the accused on Wednesday for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl.
The incident took place on Tuesday near the Trisulia area under Baranga police limits in Cuttack district. The victim, who is currently in critical condition, has been admitted to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Paediatrics in Cuttack.
According to reports, the incident occurred when the girl was on her way to a brick kiln where her parents worked as laborers. The accused allegedly raped the girl and then fled the scene.
The victim's parents, upon finding their daughter in an unconscious state, lodged a complaint with the Baranga police and shifted her to the hospital.
This incident comes on the heels of another disturbing case earlier this month where a college girl was allegedly gang-raped by six individuals, including a minor.
Worth mentioning, Odisha has witnessed four rape cases this November.
A seven-year-old girl was allegedly subjected to sexual assault after being kidnapped in Bhubaneswar on November 16 while a minor girl was found in an isolated place inside Dunguri forest of Bargarh on November 15. As the deceased minor girl’s body was found naked, it was suspected that she was murdered after sexual assault.
A college girl student had gone to a cafe with her boyfriend in the Puri Ghat police station area during Dussehra to celebrate her birthday. However, the boyfriend allegedly with the help of the cafe owner filmed some of their intimate moments on his phone there and by blackmailing her, they raped her multiple times. The complaint was lodged on November 4, and the accused were arrested over the next two days.
A 32-year-old widow was allegedly raped by her neighbor in Odisha's Kendrapara district on November 2. The accused was arrested after the woman lodged an FIR stating that her neighbor raped her when she was alone at home.
