Sambalpur, May 6 : Even as the state government is batting for people-friendly policing system under the ‘Mo Sarkar’ initiative, Sambalpur police has been accused of using third degree on a 20-year-old youth.

The victim, Manas Mundra (20), sustained injuries in his back, leg and waist after being beaten up by the police officials.

But to cover up the guilt, the police forced him to wear jeans and t-shirt before forwarding to court.

Meanwhile, Manas’s father has demanded justice for his son.

When contacted to Sambalpur SP Batula Gangadhar, he said nothing could be expressed about the matter.

Sources said a racket involved in IPL betting was busted by Sambalpur police with arrest of two persons on April 23. The officials arrested Subham Sahu of Ainthapali and Manas Mundra. But due to lack of evidence, they released Manas.

The police again arrested Manas on Monday and beat mercilessly with pipe and baton.

He was forwarded to court on Tuesday, following which tension gripped outside the court. Later, Sadar SDPO Tapan Mohanty and town IIC Ramesh Chandra Dora tried to pacify them.

On the other hand, his father Gopal Mundra told to media that his son has been subjected to inhumane treatment and if his son had committed a crime then he would have been forwarded to court immediately instead of detaining him at police station.
