New Delhi, Oct 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday urged the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to continuously reform its examination and recruitment processes, stressing the need for “time certainty” to avoid delays that could affect aspirants.
Addressing the UPSC’s centenary celebrations at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Modi said examinations should not be treated merely as events as they are closely linked to the future of young people.
He said recruitment should follow the principles of “Nation First” and “Citizen First”, while exams should assess not only candidates’ knowledge but also their motivation to join public service.
Modi also called for greater use of technology, continuous capacity building and a citizen-centric approach in civil services. He highlighted the increasing participation of candidates from villages, small towns and women in public services.
As the UPSC enters its second century, he stressed that its independence, impartiality, merit, confidentiality and fair process must be preserved.
