New Delhi, September 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday highlighted the role of Mission Karmayogi in equipping government employees with modern skills and technological capabilities, urging newly recruited personnel to embrace continuous learning and work towards making governance more citizen-friendly.
Addressing newly appointed government recruits virtually at the 20th Rozgar Mela, the Prime Minister said rapid technological and sectoral changes were creating a need for continuous skill development among public servants.
“Rapid changes are taking place across every sector in the country today. You have reached this stage through continuous learning. Now, a new journey of ongoing learning begins. You must constantly hone your skills and understand new technologies and systems,” Modi said.
He saidiGOT Karmayogi, the digital learning platform under Mission Karmayogi, was helping government employees meet these evolving requirements.
“More than 1.7 crore government employees have already joined the iGOT Karmayogi platform, and Karmayogi Prarambh has been specially designed for new colleagues like you,” the Prime Minister said.
Emphasising the responsibility that comes with joining public administration, Modi urged the new recruits to work towards reducing bureaucratic hurdles faced by ordinary citizens.
“You are now becoming part of the government system yourselves. Therefore, you should strive to ensure that other young people do not have to face the same difficulties that you or your parents had to endure,” he said.
“No citizen of our country should ever have to suffer the hardships that your parents or you yourselves have faced. You should begin this work the moment you enter the government system,” the Prime Minister added.
Mission Karmayogi, formerly known as the National Programme for Civil Services Capacity Building, is the government's flagship initiative aimed at developing a more professional, capable and technology-oriented civil service. The programme seeks to promote a shift from a rules-based approach towards a roles- and competency-based system of public administration.
Under the initiative, Karmayogi Prarambh serves as an online orientation programme for newly appointed government employees across ministries and departments, helping them familiarise themselves with their roles, responsibilities and the broader objectives of public service.
The Prime Minister's remarks came as the 20th Rozgar Melawas organised simultaneously at 45 locations across the country. More than 51,000 appointment letterswere distributed to newly appointed youth joining various government organisations.
The recruits are being inducted into several ministries and departments, including the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Financial Services and Ministry of Defence.
With the 20th Rozgar Mela, the government said around 12.75 lakh young peoplewill have received appointment letters through the initiative since its launch.
