As per the age old tradition, the first harvested crop is offered to Samaleswari at the stipulated lagna (auspicious timing for offering new rice) as a mark of gratitude for a bumper harvest, good rain and favourable weather for farming.
Apart from offering crops to the Goddess, the ‘Nuakhai Juhar’ is a major ritual of the festival. The elders are wished ‘Nuakhai Juhar’ by the juniors and they bless the latter for a long life.
