Bhubaneswar, Mar 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today remembered late Biju Patnaik, the legendary leader of Odisha, on his 105th birth anniversary.
Taking to Twitter the PM said,” Tributes to Biju Babu on his birth anniversary. His futuristic vision for India, emphasis on human empowerment as well as social justice inspires us all. The nation is proud of his efforts for Odisha’s progress.”
Similarly, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also paid tribute to the former CM. “My humble tribute to Biju Babu, the great leader and former Chief Minister. He dedicated his life to making Odisha a leading state and serving the people. We are committed to building a new Odisha by respecting his Odia self-esteem and values,” he said on Twitter.
Biju Patnaik, who was born on this day in 1916, was a two-time Chief Minister of Odisha.
Revered by many as ‘Sher-e-Utkal’ (Lion of Odisha), Biju Patnaik was initially in the Congress but he left the party after differences with Indira Gandhi and floated a regional party named ‘Utkal Congress’.
Later, he was a part of the Janata Dal till his demise in 1997.
