Bhadrak, March 18: The Chandbali police on Friday got a big lead in the Manas Swain murder case after they managed to find an eyewitness in the kidnapping of Manas.
According to police reports, the witness, Sarat Panda, a Chandbali-based journalist, was present on the spot where Manas was allegedly kidnapped on February 7.
The Chandbali police is currently interrogating Panda and will present him as the eye witness in the court during the case’s hearing.
Notably, on February 7, Manas was kidnapped from a marriage party in the Chandabali area by Sharmistha, the owner of a web portal Manas was working with.
He was then brought to an old age home in Bhubaneswar where he was held captive and tortured brutally till he died.
Manas’ family members lodged a complaint with Chandbali police on February 14 after he did not return home for several days.
Subsequently, the police launched an investigation and recovered Manas’s body on March 12 which was buried near Badhipatna hill under Ranapur police limits in Nayagarh district.
The police had also arrested three persons, identified as Bibek Nayak, Krushna Chandra Nayak, and Bhagyadhar Nayak, in this connection.
However, the accused web portal owner is still on the run.
