Bhubaneswar, Sep 25: Pharmacists, who play a crucial role in extending quality healthcare to the people, need to be empowered to serve the society better, Saswati Das, Vice-President of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan, said on Friday.
As the contribution of pharmacists in the field of healthcare is immense, there is need for the society acknowledging the same, Das said while addressing a program organised at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital Campus-1 here to mark the World Pharmacists Day.
Das, who was the chief guest at the program, said that institutions churning out trained pharmacists should prepare them to be efficient, knowledgeable and upright professionals to meet the requirements of the changing times.
Mamina Patnaik, the state Drug Controller, attended the program as the chief speaker. The theme for this year’s World Pharmacists’ Day is ‘Empowering Pharmacists for Healthier Futures’.
Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Kumar Jena, Additional Dean of IMS and SUM Hospital Campus-1, Prof. (Dr.) Pushparaj Samantasinghar, Medical Superintendent of the hospital and Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Kumar Lenka, Medical Superintendent of IMS and SUM Hospital Campus-2 at Phulnakhara, also addressed the gathering. Dr. Jasmin Panda, Head of the department of pharmacy at IMS and SUM Hospitals conducted the program.
Pharmacists who had participated in different competitions held earlier were presented awards in the program which was attended, among others, by departmental heads, doctors, pharmacists and nurses.
