Bhubaneswar: After the killing of an Andhra Pradesh MLA and a former MLA by Maoists on Sunday, the Odisha police have requested the people’s representatives here to follow the Standar Operating Procedure (SOP) in Maoist-affected areas.
“People’s representatives have advised to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in the Maoist-affected areas. Leaders should inform district SPs before visiting such regions,” said DGP Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma.
Meanwhile, the security forces in all Maoist prone districts in the State have been directed to remain on maximum alert, keep sharp vigil and collect intelligence regarding any movement of the Maoists.
The police are alert in Koraput, Malkangiri and Rayagada which are close to Andhra Pradesh to check the entry of Maoists to Odisha forests.
Notably, Kidari Sarveswara Rao, MLA from Araku Valley, and former TDP MLA Siveri Soma, were shot dead in Visakhapatnam district on Sunday afternoon allegedly by a group of Maoists from the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee.
