Bhubaneswar: BJD MLA from Patnagarh Saroj Meher was granted bail by the Special Court of Additional District Judge on Saturday here in much talked sit-up case.
However, the court has directed the accused to cooperate with the probe.
The MLA was accused of assaulting a tribal Junior Engineer in public glare. The incident created a huge uproar across the State when a video of the BJD leader manhandling the public servant went viral on social media.
In the video, the ruling party legislator was seen forcing Junior Engineer, Jaykant Sabar of the Public Works Department (PwD) to do sit-ups in the video over alleged poor road construction.
The MLA was arrested on 24th June after as the victim’s wife filed a complaint with the local police.
Earlier on July 1, the court deferred hearing of a bail petition of the MLA till July 5 and sent him to jail.
As the lawyers here were holding agitation programmes, Meher was presented his own case at the court.
