Kendrapara: Sabitri Agarwalla, who was fielded as the BJD candidate for Patkura Assembly elections, today filed her nomination papers before the Sub-Collector here.
On Monday evening, with a hope to garner sympathy votes, BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik named late party MLA Bed Prakash Agarwalla’s wife Sabitri as the candidate from the Patkura Assembly segment.
Sabitri along her son visited Naveen Niwas, the residence of Patnaik, yesterday evening and collected party ticket.
Election in Patkura, which was earlier scheduled to be held on April 29, was adjourned following the death of the 82-year-old Bed Prakash, a six-time MLA, on April 20.
Later, the Election Commission of India (ECI) rescheduled the schedule and announced that election for Patkura Assembly constituency under the Kendrapada parliamentary constituency will be held on May 19, the last phase of the seven-phase elections in the country.
BJP has fielded veteran leader Bijoy Mohapatra from Patkura Assembly seat.
