Passenger ship MV Kavaratti catches fire in mid-sea

New Delhi, Dec 3: Havoc wrecked in the passenger ship MV Kavaratti as its engine room caught fire all of a sudden on Thursday. As a result, the ship along with a large number of passengers stranded on the high seas near Androth Island. However, the fire was immediately doused and the passengers and the crew members were successfully rescued by the Indian coast guards, whose ship was in the vicinity. According to sources, MV Kavaratti was making its voyage for Androt from Kochi harbor, carrying over 322 passengers and 85 crew members today. Meanwhile, near Lakshadweep archipelago, the ship caught fire all of a sudden and its engine ceased work. Being informed, the Coast Guard team which was in the nearer vicinity from the spot, doused the flame and rescued the passengers and the crew members who are at the face of danger, said sources.
