Pangolin smuggling racket busted, three held in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, August 6: The Special Task Force (STF) of Crime Branch today arrested three pangolin smugglers and rescued a live pangolin from his possession near Kalinga Studio Chhak in Bhubaneswar. The accused have been identified as Chitrasen Sahoo of Badamba in Cuttack, Khageswar Sahoo of Patrapada in Bhubaneswar, Bhagirathi Behera of Kansamari in Ganjam. Acting on reliable inputs about a deal of sale of live Pangolin by wildlife criminals, the STF team conducted a raid near Kalinga Studio Chhak in Bhubaneswar and arrested three accused. The officials handed over the pangolin to Chandaka DFO. The accused persons could not produce any valid authority in support of the possession of live Pangolin, for which they were arrested. During the past year, 15 tiger skins, nine elephant tusks, 2 deer skins, 4 live pangolins and 13 kg of pangolin scale have been seized by STF. STF has arrested 32 accused in these connection.
