Padua, Aug 19: In a breakthrough, Padua police have seized 3 quintals of ganja and arrested three members of a smuggling racket. The seizure marks a significant success, as ganja mafias had recently become active again after a brief lull.
According to reports, while the police were on patrol, they noticed a Commander jeep coming from Andhra Pradesh. On spotting the police, the vehicle attempted to speed away. Growing suspicious, the police chased the jeep for nearly 5 kilometres. The driver lost control near Galur village, and the jeep overturned.
Upon searching the vehicle, the police recovered several sacks filled with a large quantity of ganja. Along with seizing the jeep and the contraband, police successfully nabbed the driver and two others travelling in the vehicle.
Investigations revealed that the consignment was being smuggled from Malkangiri district via Andhra Pradesh to Odisha, with plans to transport it further to other states. The seized ganja is estimated to be worth around ₹30 lakh.
Padua police have registered a case under the NDPS Act and initiated further investigation to identify others involved in the smuggling network.
