Cuttack, Jan 14: Noted philanthropist and Padma Shri D Prakash Rao’s last rites were performed at the Kaliaboda crematorium in Cuttack on Thursday adhering COVID-19 guidelines. Rao was given Guard of Honour.
Rao who died at the age of 62 years was undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack.
He was admitted to the SCB Medical College Hospital after developing breathing complications on December 25. He was shifted to ICU of the Pulmonology department in the hospital following the deterioration of health condition and was put on oxygen support after a decrease in his blood oxygen saturation.
He had received Padma Shri, a tea seller, on Republic Day in 2019 for his selfless service towards educating underprivileged and orphan children in Cuttack. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also praised him in his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat.
