Bhubaneswar, April 5: In a significant operation, Subarnapur police seized over 3000 bottles of codeine-laced cough syrup worth approximately Rs 20 lakh and arrested two individuals on Sunday.

The police intercepted a pickup vehicle at Sadar Block Chhak, which appeared to be carrying cold drinks. Upon inspection, they uncovered 150 packets containing the illegal syrup. A subsequent count, conducted in the presence of a magistrate, confirmed the seizure of 3,000 bottles.

Investigation suggests that the cough syrup was sourced from Cuttack and was being transported to Bargarh and Balangir districts.
