Bhubaneswar, August 7: Under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G), a total of 32.47 lakh houses has been sanctioned and 26.57 lakh houses have been completed during FY 2025-26 across the country, inclusive of sanctions issued in previous financial years. In Odisha, as many as 1,61,256 houses have been completed during the period. The Rajya Sabha was informed on Friday.

A total of 634 houses under PMAY-G were allocated to Odisha in financial year 2025-26.

As on August 3, against the total target of 4.18 crore houses allocated to the States/UTs under PMAY-G, 3.91 crore houses have been sanctioned, and 3.12 crore houses have been completed. The remaining 79 lakh sanctioned houses are under construction, said Unio MoS (Rural Development) Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani in a written reply in the Upper House.

The funds under PMAY-G are allocated to States/UTs, with each State/UT treated as a single unit. The distribution of these funds among districts is undertaken by the respective State/UT Governments.

According to the Minister, over the last two financial years, expenditure under Special Projects stood at Rs 528.04 crore, while Aspirational Districts recorded spending of Rs 17,281.58 crore, inclusive of both Central and State shares. Further, under PM-JANMAN, a Central share of Rs 2,465.38 crore was released for PVTG beneficiaries during FY 2024-25 and FY 2025-26, against which a total expenditure of Rs 6,329.06 crore was incurred, comprising contributions from both the Centre and the States.

The Minister said that a number of steps have been taken by the Ministry to ensure timely construction of houses in all States/UTs under PMAY-G. These include, timely allocation of targets to the States/UTs and release of adequate funds; tegular review of progress; monitoring and supervision of the scheme on a Dashboard; regular Workshops are conducted by the Ministry with the States/UTs and rural Mason Training programme, etc.

In addition to the unit assistance provided under the scheme, PMAY-G households are also provided with piped drinking water through convergence with the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Har Ghar Nal Se Jal (HGNSJ) of the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, or other similar schemes.
