Kuala Lumpur [Malaysia], June 1: Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi, a member of an all-party parliamentary delegation visiting Malaysia, informed that India's counter-terror strikes across Pakistan were codenamed Operation Sindoor to honour women who lost their husbands to terrorist violence.
Explaining the significance, BJP MP Sarangi said, "When terrorists killed the husbands of these women in front of their families, the vermilion—a symbol of marriage—was wiped from their foreheads. That is why the operation was called Sindoor—to reflect the pain and injustice inflicted upon them."
The delegation, led by JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, is visiting key international capitals to present India’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism. The group has already toured Indonesia, South Korea, Japan, and Singapore.
During her address to the Indian community in Kuala Lumpur, Sarangi also spoke about India's global standing. “We all deserve to be proud—India is the world’s largest democracy and now the fourth-largest economy, having surpassed Japan. We are set to become the third-largest in the next 2.5 to 3 years,” she noted.
Highlighting recent terrorist attempts to incite religious unrest, Jha referred to the Pahalgam terror attack. “They tried to divide us along religious lines, but India remained united. Their attempts failed,” he said.
The delegation comprises representatives from multiple political parties, reflecting a united front on the issue of terrorism. Members include BJP MPs Brij Lal, Pradan Baruah, Hemang Joshi, and Aparajita Sarangi; TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee; CPI(M)’s John Brittas; Congress leader and former Union Minister Salman Khurshid; and Mohan Kumar.
