Bhubaneswar: The ruling-BJD’s Legal Front today said that the ongoing cease-work agitation by lawyers was politically motivated.
Party legal front advisor Asim Amitabh Das in a press conference here that the cease-work agitation was politically-motivated and being carried out at the behest of some vested interest.
Claiming that efforts are on by the Odisha government to resolve the issue, Das said the BJD legal Front will work for the litigants.
Notably, the split in lawyers groups over the continuation of the strike took an ugly turn when a group of agitating lawyers and members of the BJD Legal Front were indulged in a heated face-off in front of the Orissa High Court (HC) on Monday.
Lawyers owing allegiance to the BJD Legal Front, which had withdrawn support to the strike, tried to enter the court premises to attend the proceedings on Monday morning but were resisted by the agitating lawyers resulting in a clash between the two groups.
The lawyers are on strike since August 29 after one of their colleagues Debi Prasad Patnaik was allegedly assaulted by police on August 28 in connection with a road accident at Nuabazaar in Cuttack.
