
Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: In a moment of pride for Odisha, senior banker Shirish Chandra Murmu has been appointed as the new Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
The Central Government confirmed his appointment for a three-year tenure starting October 9, succeeding Rajeshwar Rao, who retires on October 8.
Murmu, who hails from Odisha, is currently serving as an Executive Director at the RBI. He becomes one of the four Deputy Governors at the apex bank, a role that involves oversight of key departments such as monetary policy, financial markets regulation, and banking supervision.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi lauded the appointment, calling it a proud moment for the state.
In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the CM said: “It is a matter of pride for all of us that an Odia has been appointed to such an important position in the country’s apex bank. I am confident that his experience and performance as Executive Director of RBI will contribute to strengthening the financial system and economy of the country.”
