Odisha youth survives after 16 hour struggle in Arabian Sea

Bhubaneswar, May 25: A youth of Odisha has was rescued on May 19 after a 16 hour struggle in the Arabian Sea. Pitabash Routray who was working as a crew member in Appa ship is the fortunate one to be rescued from deep water of the sea. Pitabash, a native of Hajipur Kamasashan (Kantapada) under Biridi block in Jagatsingpur was working with the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation since 2004 after completion of industrial training. Accordingly, he was assigned to oil and natural gas production in the Arabian Sea. However, a severe cyclonic storm submerged his ship Appa late night on May 17 when he was in the ship, sround 100 Kilometre away from Mumbai coast. As a result, some of the crew members jumped into the sea and died while some waited with patience till the complete sink of the ship. However, Pitabasha jumped in the mid sea wearing the life jacket and remained floating in the sea. Meanwhile, a rescue ship of Indian Navy came as his savior and rescued him alive, said Pitabasa while he returned to his native village on May 22.
