Odisha woman gang raped in Delhi: S Shyni leaves for national capital to monitor probe progress

Bhubaneswar, Oct 15: Inspector General of Crime Against Women and Children Wing (CAW & CW) of Odisha Police S. Shyni left for Delhi on Tuesday morning to monitor the progress of the investigation into the alleged gang rape of a Odisha woman who was rescued from the Sarai Kale Khan area on the intervening night of October 10 and 11.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday directed S Shyni to leave for New Delhi to meet the victim lady and enquire about her health condition.

Taking the matter seriously, the Chief Minister has also instructed the Odisha Police to provide all the assistance needed in carrying out the investigation in the case by proper coordination with Delhi Police.

Odisha Police on Monday said it has been following the alleged gang rape of an Odia girl in Delhi with all seriousness and sensitivity.

“The incident regarding sexual assault of an Odia girl at Delhi is being followed up with seriousness and sensitivity,” said the police in a statement.

The police said they were in touch with the survivor's family members and are also following up on the progress of the investigation with Delhi Police.

Arrangements have been made to facilitate the movement of family members from Bhubaneswar to Delhi.

According to reports, a 34-year-old woman, a nursing graduate from Odisha, was allegedly raped by unknown miscreants on October 10 night.

The victim was rescued in a semi-conscious state in Sarai Kale Khan area of southeast Delhi on October 11 by the police and taken to AIIMS Trauma Center where she is undergoing treatment.

The Delhi Police has launched a probe into the matter registering a case against unknown perpetrators under Section 70(1). 1 (gang rape) and 115 sec. 2 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act.
