Odisha: Woman dies of snake bite in Nuapada, narrow escape for five-yr-old daughter

Nuapada, Aug 31: In a tragic incident, a woman died after being bitten by a venomous snake in Jhanjimunda village under Nuapada police limits in Odisha late last night.

The deceased has been identified as Lalita Majhi.

According to reports, Lalita's family went to sleep on the night of the incident after finishing dinner. While her husband was resting on a cot, Lalita and her five-year-old daughter were sleeping on the floor beneath. 

During the night, a venomous snake entered their bed and bit Lalita.

Her family members later found Lalita in a critical condition and rushed her to the Nuapada District headquarter Hospital (DHH). Despite the efforts of medical staff, Lalita succumbed to the snakebite and passed away later that night.

Upon getting the information, police arrived at the hospital and seized the woman’s body. It was later handed over to her family after postmortem. 

Meanwhile, Lalita's five-year-old daughter, who was sleeping beside her mother, narrowly escaped the snake bite. 

Police are investigating the incident.
