Nuapada, Aug 17: In a shocking incident, a woman constable was found hanging from a tree near Nuapada Railway Station in Odisha on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Rukmani Nag.
As per reports, some locals spotted her body hanging from a tree and alerted the police. Upon getting the information, police arrived at the scene and brought the body down. Subsequently, it was sent for post-mortem.
Reports said that Rukmini Nag sent a video to several people before her body was found. In the video, she reportedly said she planned to end her life because of ongoing problems with her in-laws.
In the video, Rukmini allegedly explained that she and her husband married for love in a temple despite their parents' initial objections. Later, they legally married in court after her husband’s family agreed. She claimed her mother-in-law, Malati Sabar, didn’t live with them but kept causing issues. Rukmini said she quietly endured the harassment, even during her pregnancy, when her in-laws offered no help and only asked for money. She said she didn’t want to die but felt she couldn’t go on because of the constant torment.
So far, neither Rukmini’s husband nor her family has commented on these claims.
A case has been registered and an investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances which prompted the constable to take the extreme step, said Nuapada police.
