Odisha Woman Dies in Fire, Husband Critically Injured

Boudh, Jan 3: In a heartbreaking incident, a woman lost her life after being burnt alive while her husband sustained critical injuries while trying to save her in a fire mishap at Purunakatak area of Odisha's Boudh district today.

The deceased was identified as Bishnupriya Meher, a school teacher by profession. 

As per reports, Bishnupriya accidentally caught fire while cooking in the kitchen. Hearing her screams, her husband Sribant Meher, who is the sarpanch of Banibhusanpur panchayat, jumped to her rescue. Unfortunately, Bishnupriya died on the spot and Sribant sustained critical burn injuries.

Sribant was initially rushed to the Purunakatak Community Health Centre (CHC) and later shifted to the Boudh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment. He was eventually taken to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar as his health condition deteriorated.

Police have recovered Bishnupriya’s body and sent it for post-mortem. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
