Bhubaneswar, May 4: Amid the worrying surge in Covid-19 cases in Odisha, the acute shortage of Covishield vaccine has stood as an obstacle before state’s vaccination drive.
Due to the depleted stock, vaccination drive was temporarily halted in 11 out of 30 districts in Odisha on Tuesday.
Vaccination has been cancelled in Balasore, Bargarh, Boudh, Cuttack, Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Sambalpur, and Subarnapur.
At present, Odisha has a stock of 19000 doses of Covishied till Tuesday. Moreover 890000 people were expected to receive the second dose of vaccine till April 19 but due to shortage the second dose vaccination in the state has been distrupted.
Additional Chief Secretary Pradeep Mohapatra has written to all district collectors and Municipal corporation to give priority to the second dose vaccination.
As many as 594314 people were vaccinated till Monday.
