Odisha Vigilance raids multiple properties of Rayagada RWSS Engineer over disproportionate assets allegations

Bhubaneswar, May 21: Odisha Vigilance on Thursday conducted simultaneous raids at seven locations linked to Malaya Kumar Nayak, Assistant Engineer of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) department at Kolnara block in Rayagada district, following allegations of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The operations were carried out based on warrants issued by the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur. A team comprising five Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), six Inspectors, and other supporting staff conducted the searches simultaneously across Ganjam and Rayagada districts.

Vigilance sources said the raids included a triple-storeyed residential building at Soundarya Nagar in Lochapada area, Berhampur; Nayak’s native house at Tholanda Bada Danda Sahi, Jagannathprasad in Ganjam; and residences of his relatives at Bali Pindi Sahi and Pankal Sahi in Buguda.

Additionally, the anti-corruption agency searched his in-laws’ house at Kamalapur near Berhampur, his rented residence at Roit Colony in Rayagada, and his office chamber at the Kolnara Block office.

Officials stated the raids are part of an ongoing investigation into allegations that Nayak had accumulated assets beyond his known lawful income. Detailed scrutiny of documents, financial records, and movable and immovable assets is underway. The searches were still in progress at the time of reporting, and the Vigilance department said further details regarding the seizure and valuation of assets would be released once the operation is completed.
