Odisha: Two including woman killed in separate snakebite incidents in Kandhamal

Kandhamal, July 30: In separate incidents, at least two people including a woman died after being bitten by venomous snakes in Odisha’s Kandhamal district late last night.

The first instance was reported from Sriguni village in Palabrudi panchayat under Gochhapada police limits in the district when Lima Bindhani (35) was sleeping with her family when a venomous snake bit her on the head.

Initially, she was rushed by her family to the Gochhapada Primary Healthcare Centre. As her condition worsened, she was later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Phulbani, where doctors declared her dead.

Upon receiving the news, Gochhapada police arrived at the hospital and seized the body. Later, it was sent for post-mortem.

In the second instance, Manas Hans (25) of Khaliberena village in Nuagaon panchayat under Khajuripada police limits was bitten by a venomous snake while sleeping in his house. His family rushed him to a nearby hospital for treatment, but he died while undergoing treatment.

After being alerted, Khajuripada police reached the hospital and begun an investigation into the incident.
