Odisha: Two bank accounts of self-styled godman frozen

Bhubaneswar, Aug 25: The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch has frozen two bank accounts of self-styled godman Bijayananda Choudhury alias Shri Swami Bijayanandaji Maharaj. The EOW on Sunday has arrested Choudhury along with another engineer for impersonating Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) officials and cheating a contractor of Rs 3 crore. Police said that a case against both the accused was registered on the basis of a written complaint filed by OTDC official, Bhubaneswar on the allegation that Mohanty cheated one Dhanurdhara Champatiray, a special class contractor by issuing fake work orders purportedly issued by OTDC and collected huge amount from him in his personal account towards projected EMD against the work orders. Further investigation revealed Choudhury of duping another contractor of Rs 75 lakh in Berhmapur in similar fashion. “We are further investigating to ascertain whether Choudhury duped others in similar fashion. Besides we are also trying to trace properties acquired by the fraud by the duped money,” said a police official.
