Bhubaneswar, June 7: Large parts of Odisha are currently reeling under sweltering heat and high humidity. According to official data, Hirakud recorded the highest temperature at 39.8°C by 2:30 PM on Saturday, followed closely by Sambalpur at 39.6°C, Jharsuguda at 39.4°C, and Bhubaneswar at 37°C.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a further rise in maximum temperature by 2 to 3°C over the next three days across several districts of Odisha. Following this increase, no significant change in temperature is expected for at least four days.
Despite the heatwave-like conditions, several regions of the state may also experience thunderstorm activity. The IMD has issued yellow warnings for the following days:
Day 1 (Valid till 8:30 AM, June 8):
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) are likely in isolated places across the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
Day 2 (From 8:30 AM, June 8 to 8:30 AM, June 9):
Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) are expected in isolated areas of Gajapati, Ganjam, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Rayagada.
Day 3 (From 8:30 AM, June 9 to 8:30 AM, June 10):
Similar weather conditions are likely to continue in Rayagada, Malkangiri, and Koraput districts.
