Bhubaneswar, Aug 11: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Sunday that Odisha will soon begin construction of a state-of-the-art stadium in Bhubaneswar, with an investment of ₹1,000 crore. This is part of a broader initiative involving a ₹4,124 crore project to upgrade sports infrastructure across 14 blocks in the state over the next four years.
The ambitious plan is set to solidify Odisha’s growing reputation as a key sports hub in India.
Speaking at the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze 2025 event at Kalinga Stadium, CM Majhi expressed his pride in the state's expanding role in the sports sector.
"Today is a proud day for Odisha," he remarked. "Having hosted the Hockey World Cup twice, the government is dedicated to enhancing the quality and accessibility of sports facilities for our athletes."
The World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze event, which took place at Kalinga Stadium, was jointly organized by the Athletics Federation of India and the Sports & Youth Services Department. It featured young athletes from over 15 countries competing at a high level.
The larger ₹4,124 crore initiative includes the construction of modern stadiums in various blocks across Odisha, with the goal of nurturing local talent and promoting excellence in athletics across the state.
CM Majhi also emphasized that hosting the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze could pave the way for Odisha to host the prestigious Continental Tour Gold event in the future, further enhancing the state's profile on the global sports stage.
