Odisha: Three Maoists including two women cadres surrender before police in Kandhamal

Kandhamal, July 7: As many as three hardcore Maoists including two women cadres surrendered before the police in Odisha’s Kandhamal, marking another significant success in the anti-Maoist campaign.

Speaking to the media at local district police headquarters, Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the Southern Range Niti Sekhar today informed about the development. Kandhamal Superintendent of Police (SP) Harish B.C. was also present there.

The surrendered Maoists have been identified as Made Beti or Champa, Raju Dodi or Ajay and Admo Madhavi or Manju.

According to sources, Champa joined the Maoist organization in 2009, while Ajay joined in 2016 and Manju in 2011. All of them were active members of the Chhattisgarh cadre and were involved in Maoist activities in Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Baudh districts.

They were working towards reviving the Lalbahini Jharkhand-Chhattisgarh corridor. According to the IG, they were linked to several past Maoist activities.

The continuous anti-Maoist campaign by the security forces has demoralized the Maoist organization and led to the surrender of these members. They have stated that the government's attractive package encouraged their surrender.

Police sources have confirmed that they will be rehabilitated according to state and central government policies.

It is worth noting that in a recent encounter, two Maoists were killed in a gunfight with the police in the Baliguda police station area.

The Maoist organization in the district has weakened significantly, and the number of active Maoists in Kandhamal, Baudh, and Kalahandi districts has now fallen below 50, as stated by the IG.

In this context, the Southern Range IG has called on other Maoists to abandon violence and return to mainstream society, taking advantage of government rehabilitation schemes.
