Odisha shocker! Minor girl raped by truck driver in Malkangiri

Malkangiri, July 22: In yet another incident of crime against women, another minor girl was allegedly raped by a truck driver in Odisha’s Malkangiri district.

Police informed that the accused driver, whose identity has not been disclosed yet, has been arrested and is currently being interrogated.

As per reports, the incident took place late near Bijaghati within Malkangiri police limits on Sunday night when the the girl, hailing from Malkangiri Sadar, had gone out to attend a friend's birthday party. 

When she failed to return by late night, her family began searching for her in desperation, but was unable to locate her.

Meanwhile, some locals noticed the girl with the accused truck driver near Bija Ghati on the Malkangiri-Jeypore highway. Concerned about her distressed state, they suspected something was wrong and quickly alerted the police. 

Acting swiftly, the cops arrived at the scene, rescued the girl, and took the driver into custody for questioning.

The matter came to fore on Monday when the victim’s family reached out to police and filed a written complaint in this regard following which the truck driver was arrested.

According to official sources, the girl was moved to Shakti Sadan, a government-run shelter home in Malkangiri town, where her statements were recorded. 

A case has been registered, and further details will be provided following the medical examination of both the girl and the accused.
