Bhubaneswar, April 24: In view of the intensifying heatwave conditions across the state, Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi has announced early summer vacation for schools, prioritizing the safety and well-being of students.
The decision comes amid a steady rise in temperatures across several parts of Odisha, with growing concerns over the health risks faced by children attending classes in extreme heat. Taking note of the situation, the Chief Minister approved the proposal submitted by the School and Mass Education Department regarding the advance declaration of summer holidays.
As per the directive, all government, government-aided, and private schools in the state will remain closed from April 27. The move comes as several parts of the state continue to experience intense heatwave conditions, raising concerns over students’ health and safety during school hours.
However, the government clarified that previously scheduled examinations, census-related duties, and other official administrative work will continue as planned without any disruption.
The early closure of schools is expected to provide relief to students and parents as Odisha faces one of the harshest summers spells this season. Authorities have also advised citizens to take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses and avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure during peak afternoon hours.
