Dhenkanal, May 31: In a shocking incident, the Town Police in Odisha’s Dhenkanal arrested a school van driver for his alleged involvement in a series of thefts in the town.
The accused has been identified as Kanhnei Barik.
According to sources, he was arrested after a thorough investigation into various theft cases which took place in various locations in Dhenkanal town, including Gayatri Nagar, Amala Pada, Karigar Sahi, and Town Planning.
As per reports, Barik’s modus operandi involve gathering information about the families of the children while transporting them to school in his van and later targeting their homes for theft when they were away.
Following the arrest, the cops seized several stolen items worth around Rs 10 lakh from Barik’s possession which include laptops, smartwatches, gold and silver ornaments, and cash worth lakhs.
Police have called in the families of the victims to hand over the recovered stolen items.
An investigation has been initiated into the matter and efforts are on ascertain other details, said the police.
