Odisha: Rs 2 lakh compensation on death of students in school hour

Cuttack, Mar 25: The Odisha government will provide compensation in case of a student’s accidental death during the school hour. The School and Mass Education Department has submitted an affidavit in the Orissa High Court today, swearing safety and security of the school students. As per the affidavit submitted by the Director of Secondary Education Pradip Kumar Das, an ex-gratia of Rs two lakh will be provided as compensation in case a student's death during the school routine. Similarly, an assistance of Rs 30,000 would be provided for treatment if a student becomes seriously ill during school hour. The affidavit also stated that all the students are covered under the purview of student’s safety Insurance since 2015. Notably, four students of Chandrasekharpur government high school Phase-I, Bhubaneswar had died on their way to school six years ago. Their parents had filed a case in the High Court demanding compensation. Hearing the case, the High Court had issued show-cause to the government.
