Odisha: Road accident deaths decrease by 43.5% in lockdown between April and July

Cuttack, Oct 21: Deaths due to road accidents have decreased by 43.5 percent in four months of lock down April to July this year, informed the State Transport Authority (STA). As per the statistics provided by the STA, 1048 fatalities were reported in April to July in 2020 comparing to 1853 fatalities in April to July in 2019. Officials said that road accident deaths have decreased by 30 percent between January and July. As many as 5125 accidents occurred between January and July this year in which 2401 people were killed while the number of accidents during the corresponding time in 2019 stood at 6690 which claimed 3426 lives. “The number of fatalities reduced by 74% in April, 42% in May, 18% in June and 19% in July. In the first seven months of the year from January to July, the death due to road accident has reduced by 30 percent,” said an official.
