Odisha reports 30% perinatal mortality

Bhubaneswar, Sept 24: Though Odisha has reported the highest point decline in infant mortality rate (IMR) in the country, the perinatal mortality rate is 30 percent in the state, according to the recent Sample Registration Survey (SRS) report. The samples were collected between 2018 -20. The perinatal mortality in rural Odisha was 30 percent and 20 percent in the urban area. While the national rate was 18 percent, Madhya Pradesh reported 28 percent, followed by Chhattisgarh (26 percent) and Uttar Pradesh (24 percent). Delhi has reported the lowest 6 percent perinatal mortality. The IMR has dropped to 36 (per 1000 live births) in 2020 from 40 in 2018. The reduction has been the highest among all states during the last 15 years with a 39-point decline between 2005 and 2020.
