Odisha registers 7.3% rise in cognisable offences

Rape cases have increased to 1,781 compared to 1,023 in 2024 and 568 in 2023.

Odisha registers 7.3% rise in cognisable offences

Bhubaneswar, March 25: Odisha registered a 7.3 per cent rise in cognisable offences in 2025 as compared to 2024, according to a White Paper presented in the Odisha Assembly on Thursday.

A total of 2,14,113 cognisable offences were recorded in 2021, which increased to 2,29,881 in 2025, the White Paper circulated by the Home Department among MLAs in the Odisha Assembly revealed.

The offences include 1,304 cases of murder, 2,994 rape, 1,802 dacoities, 353 dacoities, 1,802 robberies, 6,282 thefts, and 12,782 accidents, among others. Chargesheets were filed in 1,55,223 cases.

Rape cases have increased to 1,781 compared to 1,023 in 2024 and 568 in 2023.

The State had registered 42 cybercrime cases, in which 62 were arrested.

A dip in Maoist activities was also reported in 2025.

The State recorded three cases of violence involving Maoists in Rourkela. Maoists activities were also reported in nine districts – Kandhamal, Boudh, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Nuapada, Bolangir, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Rourkela.
