Bhubaneswar, Nov 29: Odisha police successfully recovered a newborn baby boy who had been stolen from the VIMSAR in Burla just few days earlier. The infant was traced at Rengali locality, a town in Sambalpur district.
Following a swift and coordinated operation, the baby was returned to the hospital yesterday.
Sources said, Sita Das, the mother of the newborn who hails from Chhattisgarh, delivered a baby boy on November 25 morning. While in the maternity ward, an unidentified woman struck up a friendship with Sita's sister-in-law, Madhu. Claiming to be from Sambalpur, she earned their trust by helping with various hospital facilities, such as directing them to the canteen and restroom.
On November 26, while the family was eating, the woman offered to hold the baby. Despite the presence of the family members she managed to flee from the hospital along with the child.
CCTV installed in the premises captured the footage of the woman leaving the hospital with the baby in her arms.
This case highlights growing concerns over child trafficking in the state, as similar incidents have been reported recently
