Director General of Police (DGP) Y B Khurania chaired a high-level meeting with senior officials overseeing intelligence, law and order, coastal and railway security. During the meeting, the DGP emphasized proactive steps to prevent stampedes, curb criminal activities, and enhance facilities for pilgrims.

The deployment of K9 (dog) squads has also been given priority as part of the larger safety mechanism, the official added.

A host of dignitaries, including Union Ministers and other VVIPs, are expected to visit the holy town this year. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has extended invitations to several Union Ministers and Chief Ministers from NDA-governed states to witness the grand chariot festival.

Notably, last year, President Droupadi Murmu graced the occasion with her presence.

To manage the expected surge of devotees, the police will coordinate closely with the Puri district administration to ensure smooth vehicular movement, the installation of barricades, and the swift resolution of on-the-ground issues. Emergency preparedness was also a key topic during the strategy session.

Plans include setting up CCTV cameras at strategic locations, defining traffic zones, installing road dividers, and ensuring ample parking facilities to maintain order in the temple town.

Special attention is also being given to coastal security, with plans for intensified beach patrols and the establishment of temporary police outposts to enhance vigilance.

The Rath Yatra, which draws lakhs of devotees from across the globe, will be celebrated over a fortnight. The festivities begin with the ceremonial 'Snan Yatra' on June 11. The much-awaited chariot pulling is scheduled for June 27, while 'Naba Jouban Darshan'—a significant event where devotees catch a glimpse of the deities—will be held on June 26.
