Berhampur, June 21: Tension prevailed in Baidyanathpur area in Odisha’s Berhampur city after a police constable was attacked with a sharp weapon while trying to settle a domestic fight.
As per reports, the constable Bijay Kumar Mahapatra sustained grievous injuries after being attacked with a sharp weapon while trying to resolve a domestic dispute in Badakhemundi Sahi, under Baidyanathpur police limits in Berhampur.
The attacker, a family member involved in the argument, was eventually controlled by the police, led by Superintendent of Police (SP) Saravana Vivek M, on Friday.
Sources said that the violence started from a family argument. Ganesh Chandra Pattnaik, the younger brother, was threatening other family members while holding a weapon. Worried for their safety, his older brother Anil Pattnaik called the police.
When police officers from Baidyanathpur Police Station arrived to help, Ganesh became violent and attacked constable Bijay with the weapon. Bijay was injured on his right hand, with two fingers getting hurt in the attack.
After the attack, additional police officers and the SP quickly arrived at the scene, managed to overpower Ganesh and arrest him.
The injured constable has not made any comments about the incident.
