Balasore, June 27: A special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Court in Odisha’s Balasore sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the rape of a disabled minor girl.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000, on the convict. In default of payment, he will undergo an additional one year of imprisonment.
As per reports, the court delivered the verdict was based on testimony from 20 witnesses and 27 pieces of evidence, including documents, which were presented during the trial.
The Honorable Judge of the Balasore POCSO Court, after thorough examination of the case, pronounced the punishment.
On the other hand, the victim, a minor girl with disabilities, was provided financial assistance by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), which has ordered a compensation of Rs. 4 lakh to the survivor.
The incident was reported at the Sahadevkhunta Police Station under case number 145/24, where the government conducted the prosecution.
The trial was led by an independent Public Prosecutor, who presented the case on behalf of the government.
