State para swimming championship kicks off at Kalinga Stadium

More than 100 specially-abled athletes from 28 districts gathered at Kalinga Stadium on Friday to compete in the highly anticipated Odisha State Para Swimming Championship 2026-27. Jointly coordinated by the Para Sports Association Odisha and the Sports Department of the Government of Odisha, this two-day meet at the Aquatic Centre aims to spotlight exceptional sporting talent. Competitors in both men’s and women’s categories are diving into action, fighting for top honors and a chance to secure spots in upcoming national events. Odisha continues to cement its reputation as a leading promoter of inclusive sporting infrastructure in India, ensuring that disabled athletes receive world-class training facilities.

Special Secretary of the Sports Department Ashok Kumar Panda inaugurated the grand event, expressing deep admiration for the fierce dedication shown by the participants. He directly motivated the athletes to perform their best and bring future glory to both the state and the nation. Providing consistent support and structured platforms remains a primary focus for government authorities working to elevate local sporting standards.

Paralympic Committee of India observer Sandeep Ghosh closely monitored the opening day activities, praising the excellent facilities and smooth overall coordination. He highlighted how well-organized local tournaments are fundamentally important for producing top-tier swimmers who can eventually shine on international stages. He also commended the hard work of the joint organizing bodies.
