Bhubaneswar, Sep 6: The opposition BJP and Congress MLAs today criticized the state government over the growing crimes, especially against women and minor girls in the state. Some ruling party MLAs also joined the Opposition over the same issue.
As many as 1,21,525 cases were registered in 2019 while the year 2020 witnessed 1,34,243 registered cases, resulting in a rise of 14,000 cases in the state in a year.
Moving an adjournment motion on the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, the opposition members raised issues like children going missing, rape, cyber offenses, and killings.
According to government data, 2,950 rape cases were registered in 2019, while the number has increased to 2,985 in 2020. As many as 1,563 rape cases have been registered across the state till June 2021.
Similarly, 1,635 cases of minor girl rape were registered in 2019, while the crimes against the minor girls have increased in the state as 1,646 cases were registered in the year. At least 786 cases of rape of minor girls have been registered till June this year.
Minister of State for Home, Dibya Shankar Mishra assured the assembly that the state government has been taking several steps to control crimes in the state.
