Speaking at the occasion, Health Department Secretary Ashwathi S., who attended as the chief guest, urged citizens to stay away from tobacco and help foster a healthier society. "Tobacco not only harms the user but also affects their families, especially children and spouses. The loss of precious lives each year due to tobacco makes it imperative for everyone to quit," she said.

The event focused on raising public awareness about the dangers of tobacco consumption and the importance of collective efforts to eliminate its use.

Highlighting enforcement measures, officials reported that over ₹1 crore in fines were collected this year from violators of tobacco control laws across the state. Under the effective implementation of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 108 villages in Odisha have now been officially declared tobacco-free.

For their exemplary work in anti-tobacco initiatives, Ganjam and Sundargarh districts were specially felicitated during the program.

Also present at the event were Director of Public Health Dr. Neelakantha Mishra, senior health department officials, representatives from NGOs, social groups, and educational institutions.
