Bhubaneswar, September 5: BJD president and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday demanded immediate re-conduct of the Combined Police Service Examination, cancelled due to alleged irregularities and paper leaks last year.
The Combined Police Service Examination (CPSE) 2024 for recruitment of Sub-Inspectors (SIs), was cancelled last year due to an alleged question paper leak.
Launching a scathing attack on the BJP Government, Patnaik accused it of playing with the future of the youths.
Referring to the recent passing-out of 336 Sub-Inspectors, Patnaik said, “On one hand, a batch of Sub-Inspectors are receiving appointments, while on the other, thousands of aspirants are still living in uncertainty because of the question-paper leak.”
Taking to ‘X’, Patnaik said, “The biggest irony is that the BJP Government is trying to take credit of everything without having done nothing. First, the Government should clarify when the ‘Combined Police Service Examination’, which was cancelled in 2025 due to the question-paper leak, will be conducted. When will those responsible for the question-paper sale and leak racket receive strict punishment?.”
“On Friday, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi took the salute at the passing-out ceremony of the 13th batch of Sub-Inspectors held at the Biju Patnaik State Police Academy. However, the fact remains that the recruitment process for these 336 officers, who have joined the Odisha Police after completing two years of training, had begun during the BJD Government’s tenure,” Patnaik wrote.
Patnaik claimed that the process for the recruitment of Sub-Inspectors have begun during the BJD regime.
He also extended his best wishes to all the newly appointed officers.
“I hope that everyone works with a firm resolve to strengthen the judicial system and serve the people,” wrote the Leader of Opposition.
Coming down heavily on the double-engine Government, the former CM further wrote, “The BJP Government has already wasted nearly a year of the time of thousands of young men and women. The incompetence of the double-engine Government has disappointed Odisha’s youth. It has pushed the dreams and future of the aspirants into uncertainty.”
He alleged that the inordinate delay in not conducting the Combined Police Service Examination is weakening the confidence of the youths.
“This delay is weakening the confidence of the youths. It is also damaging the public’s trust in fairness and transparency in Government recruitment process. The Government should immediately issue a notification for re-conducting of this examination,” said Patnaik.
He said that the people will no longer want to listen to the BJP Government’s false promises and speeches.
For the context, on September 1 2025, the State Government announced the deferment of written test for the Combined Police Service Examination 2024. Originally scheduled for October 5 and 6, 2025, the examination was to be conducted for the recruitment of sub-inspectors (SIs) in the Odisha Police. Since then, no fresh schedule has been announced for re-conduct of the exam.
